Let’s talk about McCain and who he might chose for his VP. The Daily Time Herald in Carroll, IA, has one suggestion - Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Check out her credentials: Pro-life, NRA member, point guard of the 1982 State Champion Wasilla Warriors, Miss Wasilla of 1984, animal fur wearing, moose-burger-eating, snowmobile rider, obligatory Mid-East tourist, new mom, and has a possible campaign staff.
Moose-burger-eating! She sounds good to me. Do we have any other nominations from the floor?
Is there a Vice-Presidential choice that would make you either MORE likely to support McCain or LESS likely to support him?
Whoever mentions the name of the person whom McCain ACTUALLY chooses will win an imaginary crown of victory.
This is easy- Tim Pawlenty. Besides the usual VP qualifications, he’s a hockey player, “a really good guy” and a very smart wife (I’m listening to Judge Mary Pawlenty guest-hosting on my favorite morning radio show). Actually, he’s too good to waste on a vice-presidency, but I think that will probably cinch it for him.
This won’t make sense until my comment is moderated, but the correction is still necessary. Of course, he HAS a very smart wife, not IS a very smart wife. Being your own really smart wife would be amazing…amazingly weird. He doesn’t do that!
We Minnesota Republicans are not generally all that enthused about Pawlenty. He’s better than having a Democrat in the office, but is considered a “centrist” with “a mind of his own.” In other words, another McCain, only more liberal.
I’ve felt for some time that if there’s a woman available for the VP slot, McCain would be crazy not to choose her.
There are Republicans in Minnesota?
Lars, to me its a very good sign that Minnesota Republicans are not generally all that enthused about Pawlenty. I’ve been a Republican since Reagan’s second election and I’ve not often been very proud to admit it in public. The status-quo Republicans in our state tend to be evangelical extremists who are unwilling to realize that they stand in the way of true conservative gains in this state, in my opinion of course. My supporting evidence for this opinion would be the support, campaign and office of Michele Bachmann.

I have been touting Sarah Palin to everyone I know since McCain secured the nomination. She is far and away the best choice on every level. She has no downside. The only thing is that I would expect her to not want to get involved in Washington politics.

I say Pawlenty or Palin. Yes, there are a few Republicans in MN, and I don’t think Pawlenty is all that bad (maybe it’s just because he followed Ventura). For Palin, how can you not like a moose-burger-eating snowmobiler?
Sara Palin would be a good choice, except that she just had a baby in April who has special needs. How can she embark on a national Presidential election campaign right now? I would be disappointed in her judgment if she did.
Sorry, but I just can’t support McCain no matter who he picks. I know El Rushbo is puffing Palin, but isn’t she facing an investigation - firing the state’s public safety director because he wouldn’t fire a state trooper, her former brother in law?

FWIW, there seems to be a lot of evidence that the Veep pic is irrelevant to the election. It wouldn’t seem so, but apparently it is. Sorry can’t quote any sources, but I’ve read it several times the past few weeks. Has anyone else seen this?
I predict Pawlenty. Picture this headline in 4yrs. should they win: “We’ve had ‘pawlenty’ of Mccain!”
Pastor Matt, the rural counties, apart from the Iron Range, are overwhelmingly conservative Republican. It is Minneapolis, St. Paul, Duluth, and the traditionally Democrat-Farmer-Laborites in the Iron Range that are the Democrats in Minnesota.
I’m not sure how many Republicans are on the campus of Concordia, St. Paul, what with professors endorsing Barakh Hussein Obama, and lots of bumper stickers saying “I think, therefore I vote Democrat”
Alan Keyes or Ron Paul would be my choices, as they (and perhaps only they) would not violate their Constitutional oaths upon swearing in following a hypothetical McCain heart attack. Paul would strangely enough bring in a lot of leftists who don’t want Washington telling them what to do, and Keyes would present the Republican message very well indeed. How well either would rule is another question.
So probably Brownbeck or Huckabee would be my choices, lest Obama institute his promised reich.
What are Palin’s view on the written Constitution and the Declaration of Independence? What are her views on the culture of life versus the culture of death? What are her views of the sodomite desecration of marriage, that mysterion of the relationship between Christ and the Church?
If Pawlenty is picked, we might end up with Frankenstein as governor (shudder)
