Christianity, Culture, Vocation

I had three conference calls yesterday, plus meetings and deliberations, so I missed the premiere of the new “Issues, Etc.” Could someone report on how it was, what the subjects were, etc.?
UPDATE: Here is Mollie Hemingway’s account.
Gene Edward Veith is the Provost and Professor of Literature at Patrick Henry College, the Director of the Cranach Institute at Concordia Theological Seminary, a columnist for World Magazine and TableTalk, and the author of 18 books on different facets of Christianity & Culture.
Lucas Cranach was the great artist of the Reformation. He was a close friend of Martin Luther. He was a businessman, who first printed Luther's translation of the Bible; a politician, who served on the Wittenberg town council and served the city as its mayor; a chemist, who operated a pharmacy; a teacher, who trained a host of apprentice artists; a family-man, who helped arrange Luther's marriage with the two men serving as the godfathers of each other's children; and an active layman in his church, who gave his pastors important personal and material support. As a Christian who lived out his faith in his many different callings, Cranach thus embodies the Reformation doctrine of vocation, using the gifts God had given him in service to Christ and his neighbor in the church, the family, the workplace, and the culture. In the spirit of Lucas Cranach, this blog will discuss wide-ranging issues of Christianity and culture with a Lutheran twist.

The first hour Jeff and Todd talked about their ’spring break.’ You can listen to it on the website. I am just finishing up listening to the last hour–Is ‘God Loves You’ the Gospel with their guest Dr. Carl Fichensher.
It was nice to hear Issues Etc. back on the air again yesterday and how nice that I could listen live - it being my day off. The introductory / exit music and taglines have a bit more of an edge to them in my opinion. It was interesting to hear about their “Spring Break” in the first hour, but it really got good when they talked about Law and Gospel in the second hour with Dr. Fichensher. Sounds like Issues will basically be picking up right where they left off, only with a tid bit more freedom now. And I think that is a very good thing.
I thought it was fantastic. It does seem a little edgier and I think it will be a lot more fun! While they obviously weren’t looking to be fired, I think Todd and Jeff are going to enjoy themselves a lot more since they’re no longer have to deal with the idiotic politics of the Synodical corporation. Thanks be to God.
It was also great to hear a nice commercial for a liturgical LCMS church!
I think Todd’s first words really tell the whole story…
“As I was saying… before I was interrupted.” and Issues, Etc. continued without missing a beat.
Todd spoke to the DePew guy about the Christian survey and politics… then Dr. F. “The Gospel.” Same ol’ same ol’ in a very good way.
My only compliant. ONLY 2 HOURS!
I agree…two hours isn’t enough great programming! And, though I didn’t like the old intro music too much, I missed the trumpets!
I don’t know if this is the place to ask, but does anyone know why the programs on itunes which I download and are in the podcasts “file” will not load to my list which I
load onto my ipod? I must be doing something wrong, but I don’t know what. Thanks to whomever!
CRB, you probably need to connect your ipod to your computer and then from the podcast menu of your ipod (in itunes on your computer) select that podcast which you want to download also to your device. A little redundant, but this way not everything you download necessarily has to be on your ipod. Hope that makes sense (and helps you out).
Bryan,
Thanks for your help. I tried that but it still would not
load to my ipod. Guess I’ll just have to burn discs instead.
