Megachurch & politics

See Presumed Presidential Nominees McCain and Obama to Make First Joint Campaign Appearance on August 16 at Saddleback Church. Note too about the “interfaith” gathering. What do you think the megachurch version of Christian political activism will be?

I think it will be about siting down together with a cup of Starbucks coffee and a bagel and doing what they can to squelch all “doctrine that divides.” That way they can pat themselves on the back and say, “There, now, we’ve finally achieved the unity the Lord wanted!”
I don’t know who will be present at this gathering, but I would venture a guess that the Holy Spirit will not be, as Herman Sasse writes: “The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, is never present where lies are told.”

What do I think the megachurch version of Christian political activism will be? A mixing-up of the rightful duties of Church and State.
